Hi, I’m Gretchen. My husband Gustavo and I have been traveling full-time for the last several years, because complicated visa issues mean we can’t yet live together in the United States. (It’s a long story, but this site isn’t about us!)
As we’ve traveled, we’ve had the privilege of meeting some incredible women. And while we’ve eaten at some world-renowned restaurants, our most memorable and delicious meals have been those shared with the people we’ve met around the world.
We’re fortunate enough to be riding out the coronavirus crisis in New Zealand, where our biggest concerns are boredom and a lack of flour and yeast at the stores. For our friends across the world, though, the situation is dire.
Aey, in Bangkok, is at risk of losing her business: a cooking school that caters to tourists. Ayu’s husband in Indonesia works in the tourism industry, and hasn’t had any jobs for over a month. Our other friend Ayu is working on providing for her son’s education and future.
We’ve had the pleasure of sharing meals with all of these women, and their food is among the best we’ve ever had. On Her Table is a place for them to share their recipes with you, while earning enough to help them thrive through these times.

About On Her Table
The meaning of “On Her Table” is twofold. First, each of these amazing women is here to share what’s on her table, giving you authentic recipes for homemade food from her culture. In exchange, we ask that you help to keep food on her table by contributing to funding this project.
Each $52 donated to this project funds one recipe. ($50 goes straight to one of the women to pay for one recipe; the extra $2 covers GoFundMe’s fees.) Of course it’s okay to donate less than that! If ten people donate just $5 each, that means one of these deserving women will be able to help support her family and community.
We’ve been amazed by the incredible quality of the home cooking we’ve experienced around the world, and we’re so excited to create a platform where these women can share it with you, too. We passionately believe that women around the world deserve to be valued and appreciated for their hard-won skills in the kitchen. Their skill deserves to be appreciated by a wider audience and to earn them income!
How You Can Help!
Head over to our GoFundMe page and donate what you can! All proceeds (after GoFundMe’s fees) go straight to the women.
Each $50 they receive (approximately $52 in donations) funds another recipe, which will appear on this site as soon as possible. Our goal is to create a thriving resource full of mouthwatering and authentic world recipes while giving these incredible women the opportunity to support themselves and their communities while tourism struggles.
